50 Years Celebrating Earth Day:
Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
Earth Day united groups that had been fighting individually against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness and the extinction of wildlife around these shared common values. It achieved a rare political alignment, enlisting support from opposing political parties, the rich and poor, urban dwellers and farmers, business and labor leaders.
The first Earth Day led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US and the passage of other ‘first of their kind’ environmental laws, including the: National Environmental Education Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Clean Air Act. Progress continued as two years later US Congress passed the Clean Water Act, followed by the Endangered Species Act and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. These laws have protected millions of men, women and children from disease and death and have protected hundreds of species from extinction.
20 years after it’s start, in 1990, Earth Day went global, mobilizing over 200 million people in 141 countries and brought environmental issues onto the world stage. Earth Day 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
By the year 2000 – Earth Day activities has expanded to 184 countries and included over 5,000 environmental groups. It triggered both global and local conversations, leveraging the power of the Internet to organize activists around the world. 30 years after its inception, Earth Day sent world leaders a loud and clear message: Citizens around the world wanted quick and decisive action on global warming, clean water and clean energy.
What Does Earth Day mean for you?
Earth Day is the time for those of us who try to balance our daily lives with passion for the environment to stand up and take action. It is a day to think about our world; how beautiful it is and what we need to do to protect it. But Earth Day is so much more than an event or a day on the calendar. It marks our commitment to protecting our environment the generations to come.
At ANS Performance we’ve combined our passion for making the highest quality food and nutrition products with our passion for making our Earth a better place. We have partnered with the organization One Tree Planted to support global reforestation efforts around the world.
Forests play a very important role in maintaining the balance in our ecosystems. Deforestation is a serious threat to the existence of mankind. Forests house a diverse range of plants and animals. They also play a vital role in maintaining the water cycle, preventing soil erosion and most important of all, forests are responsible for maintaining the balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen in Earth’s atmosphere. Therefore, reforestation plays an important role in order to overcome deforestation and to restore the natural balance of plant life on the planet.
ANS Performance donates proceeds from the sale of every unit of FRESH1 products to One Tree Planted to support their efforts. One dollar can plant one tree and help repair the devastation that can ravage entire ecosystems due to forest fires, land clearing or other environmental disasters.
Our commitment is to continue to expand our lineup of delicious FRESH1 Vegan Proteins and continue to add more natural vegan products like Omega-3s, vitamins and other functional health products to promote the longevity of health while supporting the longevity of this planet we all share.
